Started in 1989, the CGC is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club as well as the Title designation CGC. This program is open to pure bred and mixed breeds (known as American Dogs)
Advanced Canine Good Citizen (CGCA)
Started in 1989, the CGC is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club as well as the Title designation CGC. Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU)
After a dog has received the CGC, the owner may continue to the next step - The Urban Canine Good Citizen Program. The CGCU is a 10-step evaluation that has more rigorous requirements than the CGC and is performed in an urban setting. Again, it stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGCU test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club as well as the Title designation of CGCU.
